The WISSARD project is deploying a diverse suite of instrumentation designed to explore the biological, geological and geochemical characteristics of the water, ice and sediments in the subglacial environment.  In order to deploy instruments in one of the last unexplored aquatic systems on the Earth, a hot water drill was designed to melt through over half a mile of ice as we access Subglacial Lake Whillans in early 2013.

Technology tools are currently being tested on the Ross Ice Shelf in close proximity to McMurdo Station Antarctica, December 2012.
